Blom first to acquire new ALTM Pegasus

Blom, the leading European company within collection and processing of map information, is pleased to announce that it is the first company to purchase the ALTM Pegasus from Optech Incorporated, the world’s leading manufacturer of advanced LiDAR (laser scanning) survey instruments. ALTM Pegasus is the newest member of the Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper (ALTM) product family. Blom will soon take delivery of the system.

Blom is the leading survey and geographical data production house in Europe, serving a worldwide market. Blom has been involved in major European projects related to environmental control and risk assessment using LiDAR and orthophoto data. This will be the seventh LiDAR system for the Blom Group, which provides the best solutions for their clients in terms of digital elevation models.

Buying the new Pegasus system reiterates our position to stay on the cutting edge of technology. Our endeavour is to continually provide our clients with the highest quality of data sets for their applications, to be more productive during acquisition, and to deliver higher-density point clouds”, says Giovanni Banchini, Chairman and Managing Director of Blom CGR, Blom’s Italian subsidiary. ”The Pegasus will be immediately used for our European market and customers. Quality has always represented the most important factor in our projects, and to maintain our leading position in the market we must continue to work in a strong partnership with our instrument providers. Optech is one of our most important partners for this application,” he continues.

We are extremely pleased that Blom has chosen to add the world’s first 400-kHz Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper to their already impressive sensor suite,” says Don Carswell, President of Optech. “The Pegasus HD 400 incorporates many industry firsts in a revolutionary sensor design; a multi-channel laser configuration, fully embedded digital imaging options, multi-look angle approach to data collection, and true 400-kHz on-the-ground measurement capability. We look forward to exploring with Blom the significant performance and competitive advantages this unique configuration offers over conventional airborne LiDAR system designs“.
