BLOM has finished the analysis of the red-mud disaster in Hungary together with Karoly Robert College
Processing of the data acquired with LiDAR and Hyperspectral imaging technologies has been completed in order to map red-mud leakage from the broken dam in North-Western Hungary.
Combination of different remote sensing methods turned up to be a very effective solution for evaluating range and impacts of this huge environmental disaster.Based on the data acquired it was possible to simulate a detailed course of the red mud flow and exactly evaluate extent and concentration of the pollution. The technology allows to identify possible fractures in similar reservoirs’ dams and therefore it would be ideal to use it for systematic monitoring of similar deposits in order to prevent similar catastrophes.
