Blom has signed contract for Bathymetric survey in Italy

Blom CGR, the Italian subsidiary of Blom ASA, has signed a contract with Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA), an Italian research institute, to execute a bathymetric survey using the Hawkeye LiDAR technology. The data will be used for an environmental study of the Italian coastline.

The Hawkeye system is a LiDAR (laser scanning) instrument for bathymetric surveys. Bathymetric surveys are laser scanning of the coastline, both seabed and land. Hawkeye represents one of the leading bathymetric technologies available on the market.

The project for ISPRA represents an important step for the introduction of the Hawkeye technology to the Italian market, as it is Blom’s first contract in Italy using this kind of application. Blom CGR, active in the field of Bathymetry since 2003, has executed previous bathymetric surveys for important private companies in Italy. The project for ISPRA is the first time Blom will use the Hawkeye system in an Italian project. Hawkeye has proven to be successfully used in other European countries, by other Blom subsidiaries.

Blom CGR strongly believes that this project will open for a new market for bathymetric laser scanning and that the Hawkeye system can be successfully applied along the 7 000 km of Italian coastline.
